Schild & Vriend

'Schild en Vriend' is an old Flemish battlecry, used in the rebellion of the city of Brugge against the French, May 18, 1302. Legend tells that it was used to differentiate between the French-speaking (who could not pronounce 'schild') and Flemish-speaking citizens. Nowadays, historians tell us that it was probably 'Des Gilden Vriend'.

HeroClix

HeroClix is a game, based on the unique system of Combat Dials. More information about HeroClix can be found at www.heroclix.com.

This page shows a number of pictures of a HeroClix game run by Phil during Fall 2002. Other players were Wim, Koen, Wout and Dirk, who were more than willing to take on the roles of superheroes.

Scenery was produced literally in 3 hours time, using large styrofoam blocks and paper textures printed out on a color printer. Die-cast cars and traffic signs, as well as the fire station and police station are from a very cheap playset in the MiniWheels range.

Some of these pictures have been digitally enhanced using photoshop, producing quite some stunning results. Click on the tumbnails for larger versions.

Digitally Enhanced Pictures

An agent and Hercules in the foreground, Annihilus and a medic are visible on the roof. The building is made of styrofoam with a paper texture from a color laserjet printer, the scenery items are from a cheap toy playeset.

A background has been added, and the color contrast has been changed in various parts of the picture. E.g. Annihilus is much better visible on the roof. Some markers have been digitally removed. Lens flare effects have been added, and some captions and lettering give the whole picture a comic-book feel.

Hercules is lifting a police car with his superstrength ability.

Some artifacts have been removed; Lens-flare has been added to simulate the lights of the police car, and the roof on of the styrofoam blocks has been digitally colored.

Wolverine on top of some oil-cans.

A new background has been added; Hard-Rock Cafe Neon sign is added and 3D rotated in correct position, some Lens-flare effects added, and some comic-book lettering for overall effect.

Additional Photographs

Koen and Phil looking stunned. Note the front pieces for the fire station and police station. Some billboards, which are just printed banners grabbed from some websites provide atmosphere.

Phil is moving a figure while Wim is looking on. The lay-out of the playing field is the standard street map that comes with the standard Marvel HeroClix starter set.
